SMSFs should be audited annually. However, not everyone knows who is qualified to audit an SMSF.
For one to be an approved and registered SMSF auditor, he/she should:
- Be a resident of Australia
- Have a tertiary accounting qualification in audit component
- Pass competency exams and minimum experience requirements
- Hold a practising certificate and undertake relevant CPD units
